Obituary for Sylvia Fern Murphy (Stephens)

Sylvia Murphy (Stephens), 96, of Williamsport, MD, passed away June 1, 2018.

Born September 3, 1921 in Martinsburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late George C. Stephens, Sr. and Julia Ann Stephens.

She was formerly employed by Martin Marietta, now retired from Lockheed Martin. A veteran of World War II, she served in the 15th Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, NJ. She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, class of 1939. She was of the Baptist faith.

Her husband of 52 years, Frederick A. Murphy, Jr. preceded her in death in 1996. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

She is survived by her daughter Susan and son-in-law David Creech of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Brian Creech of NY and Abbe Entwisle her husband, Tyler; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Andrew Entwisle of PA. She also leaves a dear friend, Gloria Cavanaugh of Maryland.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the excellent care their loved one received from Homewood at Williamsport.

Private services were held on Tuesday, June 5 at Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg with the Rev. Jeff Shull officiating. Local arrangements were provided by Brown Funeral Home.
