Obituary for Gene Alan Akers

Gene Alan Akers, 64, of Hedgesville, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born April 29, 1950 in Roanoke, Virginia, he was the son of the late Jack Byron Akers and Katherine Mae (Akers) Akers.

Mr. Akers was a graduate of St. James High School and Shepherd College.

He was a retired RN from the VA Medical Center.

Alan was a wonderful husband, father and pappy. He was a good friend that was caring and compassionate. He never met a stranger and touched the hearts of anyone he ever met.

He is survived by his wife, Lona (Schell) Akers; one son, Justin M. Akers and wife, Nicole; two daughters, Ashley B. Hahn and husband, Seth, and Ariel A. Akers and fiancé', Josh; five grandchildren, Lorelei, Seth "Buddy", Rozzelyn , Anastasia, and Ellis. He leaves behind his four legged child, Luke.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth "Lynn" Glass.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Kersten officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkeley Co. Humane Society, 554 Charles Town Road, Martinsburg, WV 25405 and/or Hospice of Panhandle 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville WV 25430.
