Obituary for Charles Victor Keene Sr.

Charles Victor Keene Sr.
Charles Victor Keene, Sr. was born 16 January 1930 and passed away 31 January 2019 at 89 years of age.

Born in Jewell Ridge Virginia, he was the first of five children born to Ocie and Thomas Arthur Keene. "Vic" as he was known to family and friends, was the very first Eagle Scout of Tazwell county Virginia. Given a total of two career choices, coal miner or military, Vic enlisted in the US Army as an infantry man with his parents’ signature at 17 years old. Vic and the army were a perfect match for he was promoted ahead of his peers and achieved sergeant in one year’s time. While home on leave from the military he met Una Vesta Anderson. Miss Anderson was the new teacher at the Jewell Ridge School. Vic had a new car and Miss Una had a driver’s license: a perfect match. They married after a whirl-wind, summer romance October 4, 1952.

After 113 months over-seas with tours in South Korea twice, Germany twice, Japan and Formosa (now Taiwan), Command Sargent Major Keene retired after 20 years and 15 days of military service. Vic joined McDonald's Management Program in October of 1967 and moved to his new home town of Springfield, VA. He was, again, quickly promoted to store manager, area supervisor, director of personnel (HR) and at this position hired the first female manager in the Washington DC Region, Margaret Fauver and they remained friends for many years. Vic was promoted to Director of Operations. His crowning achievement being Number One in Profits for McDonalds USA. He, then, retired again for the second time.

In 1979 Vic, Una and company moved to Martinsburg WV and took over their first of seven McDonalds Restaurant's. Vic and Una retired in 2004 after 37 years of Mc's Service. This time Vic had retired for good, almost. He remained active in church, community, activities, and boards as a volunteer. Una and Vic traveled the USA extensively and found that all roads lead to Branson, Missouri.

Charles Victor Keene is survived by the lady he described as "the prettiest woman with red hair and a green dress" the remainder of his life since meeting her. He was always quick to add that she was a teacher and "has been teaching me ever since". Victor is, also, survived by his younger brother, Harold Keene and wife, Lassie Keene; younger sister, Jacqueline Davis; youngest sister, Carol Rogers. Victor was proceeded in death by his younger brother, known as Rabbit, Thomas Arthur Keene, Jr. He is also survived by his children, Charles V Keene, Jr; David A. Keene, Sr., Susan L. Keene Erwin; 6 grandchildren and a bouquet of lovely and talented, great grandchildren.

"Now breaks a noble heart. Good night, Sweet Prince, and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." William Shakespeare
