Obituary for Freda Gene Winkler (Lewis)

Freda Gene Winkler (Lewis)
Freda Gene Winkler, 88, a life-long resident of Berkeley County, left her earthly home Tuesday, December 11, 2018 to join her Heavenly Father and her devoted husband of 50 years, following an extended illness.

She was born August 17, 1930 to Fred Lewis and Martha Jane Lewis.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children Nancy J. Whitacre, David F. Winkler and wife Julee, and JoAnn Prado and husband Ricardo; dearly loved grandchildren Rebekah Piper, Justin Piper and wife Ashley, Emily Hobbs and husband Zach, and Eric Winkler; and a great-grandson Carter, to be born in February. She also leaves behind two sisters-in-law Carolyn Winkler of Woodbridge, VA, and Lucy Winkler of Bartlett, TN as well as several nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, her cat Chloe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother Francis; and her husband Franklin T. Winkler, whom she married on April 26, 1952, enjoying 50 wonderful years together before his passing on June 16, 2002.

She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School Class of 1948, as well as a graduate of James Rumsey LPN class. In her younger years she worked at Kings Daughters Hospital as well as with the office of Dr. Townsend and Dr. Chapman in Martinsburg.

She was a member of Tomahawk Christian Church.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jane Park; and Linda Schuyler who has been a caring angel for our mother. We are also very grateful for the compassion and excellent care our mother received during her brief time with Hospice of the Panhandle.

Family will receive friends on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the South Berkeley Chapel with Pastor Gene Grasham and Pastor Christian Jorgensen officiating. Interment to follow in Rosedale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, our mother would want donations to be given to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430 or Tomahawk Christian Church, 12896 Back Creek Valley Road, Hedgesville, WV 25427.
