Obituary for Elizabeth Rosina "Libby" Crowe

Elizabeth Rosina “Libby” Crowe, former co-superintendent of the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission, was reunited with her husband in the presence of their Lord on October 30, 2018, after her death at their home. She was eighty-five years old.

Libby was born in Westminster, Maryland on September 18, 1933 to John William Franklin Miles and Elizabeth Rosina Schlerf Miles. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Binghamton, New York, where she came to know Christ two years later after hearing her mother read Isaiah 53:6. As she grew up, Libby became interested in entering Christian ministry. Wanting to prepare herself, she began studying at Practical Bible Training School when she was eighteen. She graduated in 1954 and moved back to Maryland, where she worked as a store clerk and used her spare time to volunteer at the Hagerstown Rescue Mission, especially its children’s outreach.

While serving there, Libby met William Clyde “Bill” Crowe, who had accepted Christ through the mission’s ministry. Like Libby, he wanted to enter full time Christian service. The couple were married on June 1, 1956 in the mission chapel. They continued to serve together at the Hagerstown Rescue Mission until they moved to assist a rescue mission in Nashville, Tennessee for three years. In 1961, feeling God was leading them to help at the newly founded Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission, they returned to the area. Libby, as Bill’s co-superintendent, began working in the Mission office, dealing with the financial side of the ministry.

Libby loved to hear her husband preach, and when he was asked to pastor Broadfording Church of God in 1990, she supported him enthusiastically. Libby was actively involved at the church until Bill’s retirement in 2017, and she continued working in the Mission office until her passing.

Libby is survived by three of her daughters, Debbie, Sharon, and Karen Sue; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 3 of her siblings. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill, and their second daughter, Dorcas. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on November 10 at Independent Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission at P. O. Box 843, Martinsburg, WV 25402.

Arrangements by Brown Funeral Home.
