Lucy Mae Loun, 86, of Martinsburg, WV, went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2016, after a brief illness, at Countryside Assisted Living, surrounded by her family.
Born March 7, 1930, in Jonesboro, TN, she was the daughter to the late Sarah J. and Raymond J. Joines. She was previously married to the late Lester E. Whaples of Cambridge, MD and Roland R. Loun of Kemptown, MD.
She was a retired employee of Springfield State Hospital in Skyesville, MD, where she worked in the Dietary Department as a food prep cook. In addition, she was employed at Damascus Drycleaners and Bellison’s Groceries in Damascus, MD. She also did private home care for the elderly and home bound in the Damascus and Monrovia areas for a number of years after retirement. Among her passions were caring for others, cleaning homes, working in her flower beds and seeking out yard sale treasures. Prior to failing health, she attended Independent Bible Church of Martinsburg, WV.
She is survived by her children Pamela A. Spurgeon and husband Melvyn (Sonny) of Martinsburg, WV; Kevin M. Whaples of Martinsburg; Raymond R. Loun II and wife Laura of Frederick, MD. She also raised two stepchildren, Lester N. Whaples and Joyce M. Ewell of Cambridge, MD. She was Nanny to eight grandchildren, Cheli Payne, Melvyn Spurgeon II (M.D.), Marla Henderson, Montgomery (Monte) Spurgeon, all of the Martinsburg area , Ryan Whaples and Rebecca Whaples of Hagerstown, MD, and Culler and Chayan Loun of Frederick, MD. She was great-grandmother of eleven as well as aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by one sister, Gladys Ray Molesworth of Mt. Airy, MD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mildred Louise Gladhill, Mary Ruth Lenhart, and brothers, James Clarence (Dick) Joines, Jeese Howard (Bill) Joines, and John Frank Joines.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, WV on Friday, October 28, 2016.
Funeral service will be held at 11 am at Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, October 29, 2016 with Interment following at 1 pm at Providence United Methodist Church in Monrovia, MD.
