Obituary for Curtis James McKee

Curtis James McKee, 79, of Martinsburg, WV, went to his Heavenly Home with the Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Heartland of Martinsburg.
Born February 22, 1936 in Berkeley County, WV, he was the son of the late Olin Ganz McKee and Mary Ellen Sperow McKee.
He was employed as a teacher for 36 years with the Berkeley County Board of Education and retired in 1994. He was the 1969 recipient of the Outstanding Young Educator Award and the 1980 recipient of the Berkeley County "Teacher of the Year" Award. He was a member of the Bedington United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher for over 45 years, as well as chairman of both the Bedington United Methodist Church Administration Board and the Council on Ministries, a youth counselor, and a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club; the Association of Berkeley County Retired School Employees; the W.V.E.A.; the N.E.A.; and the PTA. Additionally, he was president of the Berkeley County Education Association; a certified lay speaker, where he had preached at many churches in the area; and a past-member of the Tri-County Counseling Board.
He was a 1954 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a 1958 graduate of Shepherd College.
The family would like to thank Dr. C.D. Parks, South End Wing of Heartland Nursing Home, Nursing Assistance, Physical Therapist for all the kindness of love they showed for their loved one.
Curtis enjoyed playing golf with his close friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna V. "Sis" McKee; two sons, Duane C. McKee of Falling Waters, and Brian E. McKee and wife, Robin of Martinsburg; four grandchildren, Brandon D., Joey B., and Jason C. McKee, and Bryan T. Moler; two great-grandchildren, Cloey M. McKee and Karter Moler; one brother, Douglas H. McKee of Martinsburg; and one sister, Rachel May Landis of Marlowe.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Olin S. McKee.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brown Funeral Home.
Interment will be held at Pleasant View Memory Gardens at 9:30AM prior to the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00AM on Wednesday at Bedington United Methodist Church with Rev. John Rudisill officiating, assisted by Rev. Walter Bowers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bedington United Methodist Church Care Ministry, 580 Bedington Road, Martinsburg, WV 25404.
