Obituary for Harvey Glen Holben

Harvey Glen Holben, 92, of Martinsburg passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 9, 2018. He had been in resident care at Clary Grove.

Harvey was born August 26, 1925. He was the son of the late Harold G. and Susie Butts Holben. He was the last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his brothers Ernest, Bill and Harold Holben; and sisters, France Harmison, Evelyn Turner, and Viola Leonard.

In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Holben; son Kenny Taylor; and daughter Lillie Miller.

Harvey is survived by two sons Samuel Taylor and Michael Holben; grandchildren, Reggie, Terry, and Steve Miller; Penny LeMaster; and Glen Taylor; ten great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Harvey was a brick mason by trade operating his own business. After retiring as a mason, he served as custodian for Berkeley County Schools.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

He proudly served his country for the United States Navy. He was a World War II veteran who helped liberate France in the D Day Normandy Invasion. Harvey was a machine gunner on the PT138 and also on the LST troop landing craft.

He also served in other campaigns during WWII; including European Theater North Africa, and Middle East.

Military graveside service will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:00AM at the Rosedale Cemetery.
