Obituary for John Bruce Spence

John “Bruce” Spence, 69, of Charles Town, formerly of Harpers Ferry, passed away Wed. November 16, 2016, at the Hospice Inpatient Facility. Born April 5, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Lee Spence and Shirley Gloria Schreiner Spence.
Bruce served in the Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS North Hampton. He worked as a brakeman and train dispatcher for Chessie System/ CSX for 25 years and later as a radio broadcaster for WXVA in Charles Town. His call name was “Bruce Allen” and the name of his show was “Twilight Time.” He was a very devoted grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Constance Marie Moughan Spence, at home; daughter, Jennifer Lee Mill-Irving, and husband Eoghann, of Charles Town; brother, Mark Spence, and sister, Nancy Burg, both of Baltimore, and two grandsons, Jamie and Iain.
A memorial service with military honors will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Christie officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
