Obituary for John Richard Balsavage

John Richard  Balsavage
John Richard “Rick” Balsavage, 74, of Martinsburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at his home of natural causes.

Born May 7, 1940 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Joseph Balsavage and Elizabeth Shubik Balsavage.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Marines; Marine Embassy Guard, Paris Attachment from 1962 to 1967.

He is survived by his two sons, John Balsavage and daughter-in-law Susan of Suwanee, Georgia; Mark Balsavage and daughter-in-law Linda of Martinsburg, and daughter, Ashleigh Blatt and son-in-law Adam of Corona del Mar, California; six grandchildren, John Avery and Isabel Balsavage, Tyler and Daniel Balsavage, and Elizabeth and Eva Blatt; sister and brother-in-law, Georgine and George Burton of Boswell, Pennsylvania, brother-in-law William F. Cummings III and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and George Warner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Leigh (Babe) Cummings Balsavage and brother, Robert Balsavage.

A memorial service will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church, Virginia with Father Patrick Posey officiating. Visitation will be from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the National Rifle Association at https://www.nrafoundation.org/donate/donate.aspx
