Obituary for Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Willingham (Everhart)

Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Willingham, 66 of Martinsburg passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 in the Inova Fairfax Hospital. Born November 19, 1947 in Martinsburg she was the daughter of Norma Elizabeth Braithwaite Everhart of Berkeley Springs and the late Laurence “Pud” Mason Everhart, Jr. Mary was of the Methodist faith. She was baptized by Chaplain Marlyn Bolen in the hospital before she went to be with her Lord. She touched so many lives and was the most passionate, loving and caring woman. She was the best mother, grandmother, ”Grammy”, devoted wife, aunt, sister, teacher’s aide, bus aide and was loved by many. Everyone that knew her loved and cherished her.

Mary recently retired, but still substituted as a teacher’s aide for the Jefferson County Public Schools and Respite. She was a very hard worker and often worked two jobs at once. Mary worked at Dixie Narco for eighteen years, Royal Vendors for seven years, Barnhart’s Supermarket and Walmart.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband of eighteen years, Donald Eugene Willingham. She and Donnie celebrated two important dates: August 6, 1994, they met and November 20, 1995 they married. Two daughters, Kimberly K. Comstock and Richard Greist, Sr. of Shepherdstown and Robin L. Coulter and husband Patrick of Harpers Ferry, one brother, Lawrence “Buddy” Mason Everhart, III and wife Georgia of Kearneysville, one sister, Judith Ann Burch of Middleway, three grandchildren, Christin B. Hoffman of Inwood, Dale Comstock, III and fiancé Savannah Shetley of Leetown and Brialynn E. Grove of Harpers Ferry, one Great grandson, Xander R. Biller, nieces and nephews, Yvette Mason and husband Hunter, Brian Everhart and wife Julie, David Everhart and wife Tammy, Michael Gayhart and wife Becky, Charles Gayhart and wife Crystal, Laura Lahman and husband Jeremy, Paul “Chris” Chapman and wife Chris, many great nieces and nephews, brother inlaw, John H. “Sonny” Willingham.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Middleway United Methodist Church, 7435 Queen St., Kearneysville, WV 25430 with the Reverend Owen Womack officiating.

Special thanks to the physicians and staff in the Neuro - Science ICU of Inova Fairfax, as well as to Chaplain Marlyn Bolen.
