Obituary for Donald Clifton "Dutch" Whittington

Donald Clifton “Dutch” Whittington, 82 of Ranson, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014, in the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia, while surrounded by his loving family. Born July 24, 1932 in Ranson, he was the son of the late William Russell Whittington and Melva Wolford Whittington Parsons. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Dutch served in the U S Army during the Korean War. He worked in construction for many years and at the Charles Town Race Track. He coached little league, his teams were the Indians and Cardinals, and coached the men’s softball team “Dutch Boys.” Dutch loved to deep sea fish and to go deer hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Lee Thompson Whittington, at home, four sons: Donald Eugene, Ronald Lee and wife Kimberly, Kevin Alan and wife Brenda, and Anthony Wayne Whittington, all of Ranson; one brother, Franklin Whittington, of Winchester, Virginia; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and special friend, Billy Smoot.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Lee Whittington, one brother, Junior Whittington, and three sisters: Charlotte Funk, Elizabeth Willingham and Shirley Turke.

Military graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Pleasant View Memory Gardens with the Pastor Mary Garrett officiating.

The family requests that donations in his honor be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
