William “Bill” Ellery Barnaby passed away January 5th, 2021 at the Hospice inpatient facility in Kearneysville, WV after a long yet brave battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne and his two children Jennifer and Michael.
His is preceded by his parents and his son Sean.

He was a soap box derby champion and an eagle scout in his youth. Growing up in the same house next to his grandparents in West Babylon Long Island New York, he described his childhood as one filled with great memories, good neighbors and close family members.

Bill was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne for the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was distinguished with the purple heart, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Medal. He was drafted but served with honor. All who knew him well remembers many a story - some funny and some quite tragic. He received excellent care through the VA facility in Martinsburg for decades and through his battle with cancer.

Bill was fortunate enough to attend Woodstock in 1969 after his return from Vietnam. He lived in New York City for a while enjoying the beginning of great music. Always a music lover, he attended many concerts over the decades including the Grateful Dead, JGB, and the Rolling Stones.

A mechanic for many years; starting in New York after his service in the army and ending in Maryland in 2005. He enjoyed the last 15 years of his life in his home working on projects in his garage, reading, cooking, swimming and traveling with the love of his life - wife Yvonne.
All the while listening to music.

He was a man of character; charming, funny, practical, with wise advice and a good taste in food and music.

He will be dearly missed but remembered with love and laughter.

His family is grateful for all of the hardworking dedicated health professionals at both the VA Center in Martinsburg and Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle for their compassionate care and efforts to ensure his continued comfort.
