Obituary for Wanda Markowska Slominski

Wanda J. Markowska Slominski, age 94, died peacefully on 1/3/2021.

Wanda is survived by Ben, her spouse of 70 years, her daughters Barbara Moran (Mike) of Virginia Beach, VA and Elaine DeLuca (Al) of Newark DE, grandchildren Victoria and Simon DeLuca, many brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wanda was born in Buffalo, NY. She attended Buffalo State Teacher’s College obtaining her degree in Home Economics. Wanda taught in Mohawk and Hinsdale, NY until her marriage to Bernard (Ben) Slominski in 1950. She worked in Buffalo General Hospital as a dietician until Ben took a position with the U.S. Navy Department in Washington, D.C. Wanda taught home economics in Maryland for four years. She and Ben moved to Northern Virginia and Wanda took maternity leave for 27 years (her words). Wanda did a great variety of volunteer work through church and community committees, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scout leader, and hospital volunteer. She worked part-time at CSC and AAA after her daughters left home. When Ben retired, they moved to Martinsburg, WV where Wanda continued her volunteer work in the community and through church with Catholic Daughters. Wanda enjoyed entertaining family and friends, cooking, sewing, knitting, and shopping.

Funeral mass to be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Martinsburg on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 1:30 PM with Father Gallagher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Catholic Daughters of America or Hospice of the Panhandle.
