Obituary for Shirley Jean Elliott (Gladden)

Shirley Jean Elliott, 61, of Martinsburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 while under the care of Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 17, 1959 in Winchester, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin Gladden, Sr. and Talma Jean (Kirby) Gladden.

Shirley was very proud of her accomplishment when she earned her Nursing Assistant Degree from James Rumsey Institute in April of 1980 and followed with earning her GED in June of 1980. Upon completion of her Nursing degree, she worked at City Hospital. She then went to work at the VA Medical Center where she was a Nursing Assistant and later a Phlebotomist until her medical retirement in 2003. Shirley loved Queen Latifa and watching her new show, Equalizer. She also enjoyed listening to the Bill Gaither Gospel family and Joey and Rory and absolutely loved her dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Wayne Elliott; a son, Benjamin L. Briggs, Jr. and husband Toby Hagerott of Delaware; three daughters, Angelina N. (Briggs) Webb and husband, Doug of Hedgesville; Tamla LaDawn Briggs of Martinsburg, and Crystal M. (Elliott) Micchelli of Martinsburg. Six grandchildren, Chad S. Moats, Nathaniel D. Webb, Remington N. Webb, Aniya S. Micchelli, Noah E. D. Briggs and Cierra N. Mason. A brother, Terry W. Gladden of Stephens City, VA; and two sisters, Leta M. Stotler and Tracey M. Jones, both of Martinsburg and mother-in-law, Pearl R. Kearns.

She was preceded in death by brothers, John F. Gladden, Jr. and Kirby D. Gladden, Sr, nephew Cody Cash and Father-in-law Roy F. Elliott.

The Brown Funeral Home will be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

Services and interment are private.

Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.
