Obituary for Sandra M. Plumlee (Mayse)
Sandra M. Plumlee, 77, of Hedgesville went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice after fighting an almost three year battle with brain cancer.
Born May 1, 1943 in Wheeling, WV, she was the daughter of the late Edith and Paul Mayse. She spent most of her childhood in Burnsville, WV, with her parents and younger sister the late Ann Brown.
Sandy was a loving and faithful wife to Darwin K. Plumlee for over 56 years and mother to David Beavers & Susie (Germany), Darrin Plumlee (NJ), and Dean Plumlee and wife Amy (MD).
In addition to her husband and sons, Sandy is also survived by her grandchildren, Deanna, Dayna, and Devin (NJ), and Adyn, Kael, and Muriel (MD) and Ramon Santa Perez (FL), great-grandchildren Chet and Braxton (NJ), nephew Duane Brown (WV), and nieces, Debbie, Denise, Dixie, and Shannon.
Sandy graduated from Burnsville High School in 1961 and immediately went to work for the FBI in Washington, DC. It was here she met the love of her life, Darwin. She also worked for the Federal Housing Administration and Federal Highway Administration before moving to Martinsburg to open the Plumlee Sewing Center in Berkeley Plaza in 1974 where she taught sewing classes for many years. She was also employed by Shepherd College, Eastern Regional Jail, and James Rumsey Technical Center. She was known as the “Energizer Bunny” of Plumlee Auction Service where she worked tirelessly and enthusiastically almost every part of the business for 48 years. She loved the crowds and excitement.
Sandy and Darwin’s life was forever changed after moving to Martinsburg area and began attending Independent Bible Church in 1974. It was during this time they developed a deep conviction from the Holy Spirit of their sin before an Almighty and loving God. On June 23, 1976, at IBC, they both repented of their sins with tears streaming down their faces, gave in to the Grace that had pursued them lovingly for months, and committed their lives to Christ. Sandy’s life was dramatically changed. She attended IBC faithfully from that point on and volunteered by teaching the toddler class (18 years), working with Junior High students and lovingly feeding any who came her way. Sandy’s greatest gift was serving others.
Sandy loved her grandchildren, gardening, pets, food, jewelry, travel, working and people.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00AM with Pastor Mark Johnson and Pastor Curt Lowry officiating at IBC, 2306 Hedgesville Road, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
Family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Guests are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Interment will be private.
