Obituary for Romulo J. Estigoy

Romulo J. Estigoy, 92 of Martinsburg passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Born September 5, 1929 in Anda in the Thousand Islands, Philippines, he was the son of the late Isidro and Cecilia Estigoy.

He was a graduate of the University of Washington (Seattle) and received his medical degree from the University of Santo Thomas (Manila). His internship was completed at St. Peter’s Medical Center in Albany, New York and he was Chief Resident at Elmhurst General Hospital in Elmhurst, NY.

He practiced medicine in St. Croix, US Virginia Islands, for eleven years prior to relocating to Martinsburg, West Virginia VA Medical Center and then private internal medicine practice in his Martinsburg and Shepherdstown offices for more than 40 years. His attention, kindness, compassion, and dedication to his patients were praised and appreciated by all his patients and many friends.

He was an avid golfer, gardener, and poker player and loved reading and traveling with his late wife, Patricia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Patricia McDonald Estigoy; his brother, Eladio Estigoy; sisters, Nora Cuarteron, Elena Agdasiw, and Violeta Estigoy; cousins in the United States: Cecilia Lawson (Freddy), Dionisio Estigoy (Narda), Rudolfo Dela Merced (Tita), Milton Estigoy, Clara Estigoy and his many nieces and nephews in the Philippines, Australia, Dubai, Singapore and Paris. He is also survived by members of the McDonald family: Sister Dale McDonald, PBVM, John McDonald (Trumane), Thomas McDonald (Dr. Paula Ippolito); niece, Laura McDonald; nephews, John McDonald (Traci), Michael McDonald, and Andrew McDonald; grandniece, Mackenzie McDonald; and grandnephew, Blake McDonald.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brown Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. Leo Catholic Church Inwood. Interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery in Congers, NY.
