Roger “Butch” Murphy, 71, of Hedgesville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.
Born May 12, 1949 in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Paul Dudley and Dorothy Marie Stewart Murphy.
He was a 1968 graduate of Hedgesville High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; and each year he and his sons along with good friends, JR Clingan and Rodney Mason went hunting in Colorado.
Butch was owner/operator of Murphy’s Shell Station in Hedgesville. He attended Independent Bible Church.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Murphy (Laurie) and Brian Murphy; three grandchildren, Justin Murphy, Megan Murphy, and Katie Suchman (Robert); two great-granddaughters, Kenzlie Murphy and Maddie Suchman; one sister, Sandra Miller; his former wife, Deborah Murphy; and his last days were spent in the care of good friend, Lois Rankin.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Murphy and William (Bill) Murphy; and brother-in-law, Harry J. Miller.
The Brown Funeral Home will be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 3:00PM to 5:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.
Service and interment are private.
