Obituary for Roger Lee Harold

Roger Lee Harold 75 passed away on 4/26/2023 in the care of Hospice after a long 2-years battle with cancer.

Born in Petersburg WV and raised in Upper Tract, WV, he was the youngest child of the late Shyrl and Ruth Hedrick Harold, and a 1966 graduate of Franklin High School.

He is survived by his wife Carol Heldreth Harold, his son, the light of his life Jeremy Harold (Krista) 4 grandchildren JayLynn, Tyson, Quinton, and Henson all of South Carolina, his sister Frances Lawrence of Winchester, Brother-in-law Curt Heldreth (Mary) Fayetteville, NC, sister in law Betty Jurick (Mike) Morgantown, WV and his card playing, road trip buddies Sister in law and brother in law Mary and Rodney Frazee of Martinsburg. He is also survived by his cousins Grace Hedrick 103, Betty Horan and family, Jack Hedrick (Star) and family all of Upper Tract, Nancy Heck of Petersburg, WV.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his Maternal and Paternal grandparents, his Brother Estel Harold (Rosemary), brother-in-law and hunting buddy, Archy Kenneth Lawrence, Mother/father-in-law Walter and Ruth Heldreth, sister in law Connie Heldreth McCartney.

Roger retired from Western Electric/ AT&T after 30 years, in his second career he was security for Hedgesville High School and athletics, 4-H camp and Clarion Inn in Shepherdstown.

Roger was a life partner in his wife’s real estate business, The Carol Harold Team of Long & Foster.

He was a member and served as an officer in several locals with the Communication Workers of America, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Roger believed in workers’ rights.

A special thank you to his care giver Betty Strine who made our life better the past several months, we nicknamed her Mrs. Miracle. A shout out to the WVU Home Health team who he loved, and Hospice Nurses in Kearneysville. We were truly blessed by all the health care workers who cared for him, he was always humorous with them.

A small Service will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood. A family visitation will follow from 6:30 pm to 8:00pm.

Graveside services will be held at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract, WV on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 11:30 am.
