Obituary for Roger Glen Clower, Sr.

Roger Glen Clower, Sr., of Martinsburg, WV, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, Winchester, VA.

Born January 2, 1941 in Cumberland, MD., he was the son of the late Ira Glen Clower and Olive Clower (Saville).

Roger was well known as the mail carrier in Bunker Hill of 31 years, leaving candy for the kids on his route. He was an avid horseman and team roper; he also was an owner/ trainer of thoroughbred racehorses. Roger was quick witted and love to cut up with everyone, especially his Saville and Clower cousins. Roger never met a stranger. He enjoyed getting to know people and always made an effort to connect with them.

Roger was honored to be 2021 Outstanding Alumni of Musselman High School. He enjoyed his class of ’59 reunions.

Roger was most proud of his service to his country. Serving in the Army from 1960-1963 in the 101st Screaming Eagles Paratrooper Division, a Sergeant (E-5). Roger kept in contact with his Army buddies as much as possible.

Roger was a member of New Life Community Church for many years and Bunker Hill Methodist Church prior to attending New Life.

Roger served on the board of Henry Arena Equine Facility and was founding member.

Roger mentored many young men and women with horses and business and life in general. He owned and operated Diamond C. Stables where he met many life-long friends.

Roger is survived by his wife Patricia Daley Clower; two sons, Roger Glen Clower, Jr. and Steven Bradley Clower; daughter, Jennifer Paige Busey; two stepsons, Timothy Charles Schoppert; Brett Jason Schoppert; and one sister, Rita Kay Spiker; four grandchildren, Brent and Candice Clower, and Owen and Olivia Busey; nine step grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood, WV with Reverend Jim Goforth officiating.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 6;00 to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel.

Interment will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery.
