Obituary for Raymond Thomas Petrucci, Jr.

Raymond T. Petrucci, Jr., 89, of Martinsburg, WV passed away at this home surrounded by his family on April 7, 2023.

Born April 3, 1934 in Martinsburg, WV he was the son of the late Raymond T Petrucci, Sr. and Mary Saladini Petrucci who were originally from Italy.

He was a proud and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family. His steadfast support to family and friends as well as his community was an important part of his life. He enjoyed family life and Italian heritage in which he shared with others.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Dick Petrucci; sons Anthony (Tony) J. Petrucci (Kim), Jeffrey S. Petrucci (Karen) and one daughter Andrea (Tina) Petrucci-Kackley (Tim); five grandchildren, Avery, Ashlin, Austin, Drew and Tara Petrucci; and two great grandchildren Madison and Samantha and many nieces and nephews.

Raymond was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School in Martinsburg, WV and attended Shepherd College. He was a US Army veteran serving at Fort Benning, GA. He also worked as a young man at the Martinsburg Journal and worked very hard toward a management position with Cassco Ice and Cold Storage/ Reddy Ice in Martinsburg, WV. His dedication as manager was evident as he worked many hours and maintained a successful business in which he retired after 50 years of service. He continued after retirement to build a successful private family business, Petrucci’s Ice and Fruit Storage, Inc. and Petrucci’s Country Market. Both he and his son Tony were owners and operators of a thriving family business. Raymond loved the home town community and the pride it brought to his life. The business continued for nearly 20 years as he enjoyed family and friends and many customers with whom he formed lasting friendships which brought him great joy.

Raymond was very highly respected in the community and participated in many organizations which included the Martinsburg Jaycees, The Martinsburg Eaters Mens Club, Exhausted Roosters Club and Sons of Italy. He was very dedicated to St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was in the Knights of Columbus as a third-degree member. His generosity toward community was exceptional as he gave his time and kindness to others.

He was an outstanding athlete as he excelled in basketball and baseball during his years at St. Joseph Catholic School. His love of sports continued throughout his life. His pride in his Italian Heritage was a large part of his life that he shared with others.

His dedication and love towards his family was one of his most endearing qualities that will be cherished by all. His kind spirit shined brightly toward all who knew him. His loyalty to family and friends was genuine and unending.

In Addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas Petrucci, Franklin Petrucci, Anthony Petrucci, and Bernard Petrucci; one sister Elizabeth Petrucci Bigiarelli and one nephew Kevin Petrucci.

Raymond will be missed by so many who loved his kind and humble spirit. His unending compassion was felt by many. His family roots were the foundation of his values and life. He will forever be remembered as a gentle man who had a powerful impact on his family. His life was a true gift which will be embraced by family. May his soul feel Gods love and strength as the angels surround him.

Service will be held at 11:00 am at Brown Funeral Home Friday, April 14, 2023,with Father Thomas Gallagher Celebrant.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Friday, April 14, 2023 at Brown Funeral Home.

Private interment prayers will be held in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.
