Monica Bryant Payne, 73, of Falling Waters passed away in her home on Saturday, May 29, 2021. She was born on September 26, 1947, in Fredericksburg, VA to the late Bill and Parker Bryant. Monica was the center of her family and a cherished friend and her loss is felt by all.
Monica spent the majority of her professional life at Gallaudet University. While she held several positions there, her final role was as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean, School of Communications. Monica was known by her colleagues for her work ethic, intelligence, and humanity and was often described as the “heart” of the department.
In her free time, Monica enjoyed reading, road trips with her husband, and crafting beauty through jewelry making, photography, and crochet. By far, her greatest joy was her family. Whether it was a simple family meal, a competitive game night where she never failed to win at Trivial Pursuit, a festive holiday gathering, or the act of carrying on a family tradition, she was always quick to express her happiness and note that “family is everything”.
Monica is survived by her husband of 41 years, David; her four daughters Kristi, Julie, Christa, and Lisa and their husbands whom she considered sons; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; her brother-in-law; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved brothers Ron and Gary.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cancer Research Institute www.cancerresearch.org or Hospice of the Panhandle www.hospiceotp.org.
