Obituary for Mildred L. "Middy" Butts (Bartles)

Mildred “Middy” L. Bartles Butts, 82, of Martinsburg, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on January 26, 1939, in Berkeley County, she was the daughter of the late James David Bartles and Anna Rebecca Brown Bartles.

Mildred enjoyed doing her daily devotions, reading many verses of the bible because “there is always a verse that can lead you through life” and always treated others as she would want to be treated. She retired from Shenandoah Valley Community Health Center as a secretary and those who knew her will tell you she was quite mischievous with a great sense of humor and could make you laugh. She loved gardening, birdwatching, working on puzzles and was happiest with a home full of family and friends. Middy also loved to tell stories of her childhood, her family and her job. She was a member of Women of the Moose.

She is survived by one son, Morris E. Butts, II; three daughters, Teri Mercer (Mike), Charylene R. Mintz, and Beth Grim (Marty); 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Middy leaves behind a lifelong best friend, Madelynn Miller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her significant other, Dave Davis; a daughter, Donna Lynn Broughear; a brother, David Bartles; and a sister, Irene Cole.

A special thanks to the Davis family for their kindness and generosity throughout the years.
