Obituary for Marianne Grusheski (Caruthers)

Marianne Caruthers Grusheski, 88, of Falling Waters passed away peacefully on Friday, May 14, 2021 at her home.

Born March 26, 1933 in Nashville, TN she was the daughter of the late Annie Elizabeth and John D. Caruthers.

Marianne graduated from Isaac Litton High School and attended the University of Tenn. In Knoxville.

She met her husband Jim in Nairobi, Kenya, where they were both employed by the U.S. State Department of Foreign Service. They were married in Nairobi by the Consul General at the consulate residence in 1962. For the next 15 years, they lived overseas in Brazil, Turkey, Greece, Nepal and Indonesia, as Jim continued his career as a Foreign Service Officer. In 1977, they returned home to the U.S. to live in Fairfax, VA. Marianne moved to Falling Waters, WV in 1995 and happily became a Mountaineer fan.

Marianne continued to travel extensively after retirement and became an avid bridge player earning the title of Life Master. She volunteered for the WVU Hospital Auxilliary and became involved in local organizations as well as actively participating in her community of Spring Mills.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Perugini; her son, James C. Grusheski, (Jennifer); and four grandchildren, Katie, (Gary), Nicholas, Jimmy and Jack.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Grusheski; and one brother, John D. Caruthers, Jr.

Services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
