Obituary for Marguerite M. "Marita" Barnes (Connelly)

Marguerite “Marita” M. Barnes passed away on March 31, 2022. She was born November 7, 1943, in Queens, NY.

She was the daughter of the late Robert J. Connelly and Margaret I. Radoczy Connelly.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas T. Farmer.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, James R. Barnes; daughter, Kristin D. Ganoe and husband Roman; daughter, Megan E. Byrd and husband Ryan; son, Robert D. Farmer, brother, Robert J. Connelly, and sister, Virginia F. Connelly. She was a loving and devoted “Grammy” to her three cherished grandchildren, Marleigh R. Means, Gabriella I. Ganoe, and Zachery N. Byrd.

She was a faithful member of St. Leo Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of The Legion of Mary, and assisted with the Senior luncheons. She was an avid volunteer throughout her life both at St. Joseph and St. Leo Catholic Church.

She graduated in the Class of 1964 at Kings Daughters Hospital School of Nursing, Martinsburg. She was a dedicated registered nurse for over 20 years, specializing in surgical and mental health nursing.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with Jim in their motorhome to 49 of the 50 states. She was beloved by her many friends, neighbors, and family members. Marita will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo Catholic Church in Inwood, on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a 10:30a.m. Rosary followed by a reception at the church hall.

A private interment will be held at a later time.
