Obituary for Karl William Opp

Karl William Opp, 77, of Inwood passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey to William and Agnes Opp.

He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from January 1964 and was honorably discharged in January 1968.

On June 7, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Janet in Bergenfield, New Jersey. They then moved to Saddle Brook, New Jersey.

He was employed as a computer analysis at several companies including The Record, K-Mart, Scholastic Book Company, and Warwick Insurance.

He was involved in many activities while his children were growing up including; Little League and Softball Coach, Bowling Assistant Coach, and both Cub and Boy Scout Leader for many years. He was also the treasurer for both Project Graduations for their high school.

He loved listening to the the "Oldies" and watching NASCAR and Indy car races and attended several of them. He was both an avid gardener and woodworker.

After retiring in 2006, he and his wife moved to their dream home in Cape Coral, Florida and soon after became active travelers visiting all fifty states and many countries around the world. They enjoyed the adventurous side of life with activities that included skydiving, ultra-light flying, glider plane flying, diving with sharks and hang gliding, but his favorite activity was taking the grandchildren on Disney cruises.

In 2019, they moved to West Virginia to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Later that year, they renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary on the beach in Bermuda, where they spent their honeymoon.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Lanz Opp; his children, Daniel Opp (Liesbeth) and Kimberly Welge (Sean); six grandchildren Ryan, Kaylee, and Alyssa Opp; Devon, Megan, and Logan Welge; and one brother, William Opp (Barbara). He is predeceased by both his parents.

He will be greatly missed and always loved.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood with Pastor Hunter Kidwell officiating.

Interment will be private.
