Joseph Nicholas Dugan, 86, of Martinsburg passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at his residence.
Born February 25, 1936 in Hedgesville, he was the son of the late Joseph Lemuel Dugan and Catherine Elizabeth Snyder Dugan.
He is survived by three daughters, Elayne Wilfong (Rick); Kristina Dugan, and Donna West (Todd); three grandchildren, Jacobi Wilfong (Bri), and McKenna Wilfong, Luke West; three brothers, Daniel Dugan (Mary), Charles Dugan (Ruby), and Dale Dugan (Helen); one sister, Barbara Armbrester; his first wife and mother of his children, Juliann Harrison Davis; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He will be fondly remembered by his friend, Phyllis Wolford, L.J. Markley and nephew, Dale Dugan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Jane Rinaldi Dugan; one son, Joseph “Jay” N. Dugan, Jr.; and one sister, Patrycia Wolfe.
Nick’s love of people manifested with a hearty slap on the back at a bluegrass pickens, a practical joke, or a loving prayer for a stranger in need.
His unstoppable work effort was evident throughout his life whether it was working at a gristmill at age thirteen, plowing a field with horses, wrecking a hospital, or paving his church’s parking lot.
If he ever asked you to go on a Sunday drive with him in his Mercedes, buckle up, (although he won’t), because you were in for an adventure. Who knew if he would be haggling over a bulldozer, smooth talking his way out of a speeding ticket, or sharing Jesus with a stranger.
Nick will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, love of people, and above all his great desire that all people would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to donate to missionaries sharing God’s love around the world.
