Obituary for Joe Blount Hughson, Jr.
Joe Blount Hughson Jr. passed away on October 28, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WVA after a lengthy battle with emphysema.
Joe was the son of Joe B. Hughson Sr. and Ruth P. Hughson.
He served in the US Army in Vietnam from October, 1968 to October, 1969 as a radio teletype operator. He saw heavy combat at Pleiku, Vietnam in particular and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his exceptional service. He was honorably discharged from the Army in March, 1974 and from the Utah Army National Guard in November, 1987.
He was finally granted a full disability for PTSD by the Army after many bureaucratic arguments and delays. He was then able to receive extensive care from the dedicated staff at the VA Medical Center in WVA for many years, which the family greatly appreciates.
He is survived by his sisters Diane Copenhafer and Joetta Johnson; sons Doug and Blakely and daughter Chamblee; and grandchildren Casen and Penelope.
