Obituary for Janet Irene Martin (Sperow)

Janet Irene Martin, 81 of Bedington, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Born October 12, 1940 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Riner Sperow and Opal Alice Sperow.

A graduate of Martinsburg High School’s class of 1958, she was a manager at the 167th Federal Credit Union for 32 years and worked at the World Wide Travel Agency.

Janet was a lifelong member of Bedington United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and in many capacities throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of the Echo Falls CEOS serving in a variety of roles. Janet was a member of the Bedington Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Janet donated her time and energy to many organizations and people throughout the Bedington community.

Janet was a lovely, beautiful and kind woman with a heart of gold.

Janet’s greatest joy was the time spent with her family particularly in the events and lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Charles “Sonny” Martin whom she married August 30, 1972; daughters, Tamara Kay Scheuch (Alfred) and Tracey Ann Adams (Jeff); two step sons, Charles “Chuck” Martin (Juanita) and Steven Bradley Martin (significant other Kelly Pierce); grandchildren Jeffrey “Brock” Adams (significant other Darcy Oursler), Alissa Nicole Adams, Christopher William Scheuch (Kimberly), Dustin Bryant Scheuch (Heather), William “Bryant” Scheuch (fiancé Madison Collins); great grandchildren Olivia VandeLinde Scheuch, and Isabella VandeLinde Scheuch; step grandchildren Megan Martin-Coffey (Ann), Mikayla Talbott (Jim), Marissa Lorton (Richie), Maria Schwartz (Jake), Brianna Martin, and Charles “Bradley” Martin; step great grandchildren Kaylin Malee Cantley, Kasen Robert Cantley, Haven Lorton, Conner Lorton, Ella Swartz, and Aubry Talbott.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 4, 2022 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.

Service will be Thursday, May 5, 2022 1:00 p.m. at Bedington United Methodist Church with pastors Scott Summers and Walter Bowers officiating.

Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
