Obituary for James Russell Guthrie
James Russell Guthrie, 84, of Falling Waters, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children.
Born October 16, 1937, in Uniontown, PA, he was the son of the late James and Catherine (Brooks) Guthrie.
James was a retired educator and soldier and served proudly in the U. S. Army 1962-1991.
Jim was a courageous, kind, loving, dedicated family man and friend. His most cherished role in life was that as a husband, father, and grandfather. He was immensely proud to serve his country.
He is survived by wife, Sandra Tifft Guthrie; daughter Catherine Stilwell, her husband Jon and their daughters, Elise and Emma of Springfield, VA; sons James Guthrie, his wife Neela and their sons, Hudson and Beckett of Fairfax, VA; Matthew Guthrie of Martinsburg, WV; Andrew Guthrie, his wife Sarah and their children, Landon and Harper of Hedgesville, WV; daughter Elizabeth Guthrie of Springfield, VA; dear family friend Marilyn Wilson, countless beloved extended family members and devoted canine companion, Zoey.
James was preceded in death by his loving parents, Catherine (Brooks) and James Russell Guthrie; adoring in-laws, Robert and Elsa Tifft; cherished grandson, Christopher Stilwell; dearest brothers-in-law, Gerry Maier and Jonathan Tifft; doting uncle and aunt, Woodrow and Hallie Guthrie; beloved friends, Bill Wilson and Al Cunningham; numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and countless fellow soldiers.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Brown Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 3:00PM at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:00PM prior to the service.
Interment will be in Gerrardstown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation or a charity of your choice.
