Obituary for James Richard "Jim" Dick, Jr.

James (Jim) R. Dick, Jr., 89, of Winchester, VA passed away surrounded by his family on January 30th, 2021 to gain his heavenly wings. Jim was born on October 15th, 1931 to James R. Dick, Sr., and Jessie Morrow Dick in Hedgesville, WV. Jim attended school in Hedgesville and went on to serve in the US Marine Corps. He retired from Corning Glass after a 31-year career as a kiln operator. Jim was also a distributor for Home Interiors and Gifts.

In 1955, Jim met the love of his life, Shirley, and they were married for almost 65 years. Jim and Shirley lived in Hedgesville, WV until 2005 when they moved to Winchester, VA, with their daughter. Jim and Shirley had two children, a son, Robert and a daughter, Sandra. Jim had two grandchildren, his granddaughter, Jacqueline and his grandson, Robert & wife Tiffiany, and three great grandchildren.

Jim was a loving and wonderful provider for his family. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Jim had a very special bond with his granddaughter, Jackie from the time she was born. He was an avid gardener, growing asparagus, tomatoes, and many other crops. He loved spending time outdoors. He was also a woodworker over the years building furniture for family and friends.

He was the most loving husband and father a family could ask for. Jim was predeceased by his son, Robert, his mother, Jessie, his father James, his sisters Thelma, Nora Lee, Mary and Freida and his brother, Clinton. He is survived by his brothers, John (Louise), Roy (Patricia), Boyd and Donald (Alice). Jim also leaves behind his close friends, who were like his brothers, Nelson (Sam) Ballenger, Glen Mohr and Charles & Ruby Dugan.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
