Obituary for Grace Elizabeth Hanshew (Miles)

Grace Hanshew entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on the morning of May 17, 2023.

She along with her twin sister Esther were born to George and Ruth (Crawford) Miles on May 21, 1941, in Washington D.C.

She was a graduate of Washington Bible College where she also met her husband, Martinsburg native Charles Hanshew. They moved to Martinsburg in 1967 when Charlie became pastor of his home church, Independent Bible Church (IBC). After her husband’s death in a car accident in 1982 Grace continued to attend and serve Lord at IBC being a member there for 56 years. She served the Lord as a pastor’s wife, choir director, organist, teacher of a Ladies' Bible class, and in many other ways. Her priority in life was to always follow and serve the Lord trusting Him to take care of the rest, which He did.

In her last days, it was her stated testimony that she was thankful to the Lord for all those He had brought into her life who had a spiritual impact upon her and that God had blessed her life.

Preceded in death by her parents George and Ruth (Crawford) Miles, her husband Rev. Charles Hanshew, and two sisters, Esther and Martha.

She is survived by her two sons Tim and Dan (Elizabeth) and eight grandchildren Morgan, Jolene, Jack, Charlie, James, Evelyn, Suzy, and Noelle.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Independent Bible Church (2306 Hedgesville Rd. Martinsburg WV) with visitation at 4 pm followed by the service at 5 pm. Rev. Mark Johnson will be officiating.
