Obituary for Gerard Paul "Jerry" Husson

Gerard Paul “Jerry” Husson, 72, of Martinsburg, passed away Saturday, May1, 2021, at Berkeley Medical Center.

He was born February 10, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, to Charles and Mary (Merritt) Husson.

He was a graduate of Roscoe Central High School in 1967 and continued to serve in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman from 1967-1971. After completing his service he attended Dowling Community College, where he received a degree in Accounting.

While serving, he met the love of his life, Johna (Griffith) by chance in Iceland while he was stationed at the Naval Air Station Keflavik, and she was on vacation. Less than three weeks later, they became engaged and were married within a year, once he returned stateside in Long Island, NY.

During their nearly 50 years of marriage, Jerry and Johna had the unique opportunity to live in and travel to many locations around the United States with Jerry's 38 years working in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. There he found great pride in ensuring the best possible care for fellow veterans while helping to grow the professional careers of colleagues. He started his career as an Assistant Fiscal Officer in East Orange, NJ, and worked his way through the ranks to become the Director of Beckley, WV. He ended his career in 2012 after serving as the Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C.

Along with Johna, Jerry is survived by children Todd (Monika), Amy (Justin Seeders), and Timothy (Andrea); grandchildren Bradley, Branden, and Matthew Husson, and Brenna and Leah Seeders; brother Charles Husson and sister Patricia Husson; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Jerry loved to tell a good story. If by chance it was a repeat, well, it was just as entertaining the second time. He also enjoyed working on his vintage MG, watching NASCAR, and most importantly, spending time with those he loved.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Jerry touched are invited to the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood from the hours of 2:00 PM to 3:00PM on Saturday, May 8, 2021 to reminisce, celebrate Jerry's life, and of course, tell a good story. Services will follow with Rev. Chris Butler officiating. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jerry's name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
