Obituary for Evangelos Georgios Lenis
EVANGELOS GEORGIOS LENIS, age 82, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at his daughter’s home in Inwood, WV.
Evangelos was born on January 5, 1940, in Piraeus, Greece, the son of the late Georgios Lenis and Aglaia (Didimiotis) Lenis. He immigrated to the United States in 1970, and married Estella (Mustakas) Lenis in February of 1977. Together they raised four children. Evangelos worked as a barber for nearly sixty years, eventually operating as owner of Lenis Hair Designs in Rockville, MD. He enjoyed woodworking and bowling in his spare time.
In December of 2015, he moved from his longtime residence in Gaithersburg, MD to his daughter’s home in Virginia. She served as his primary caretaker while his health declined from dementia. Evangelos was thrilled to be able to play soccer and enjoy sunsets with his grandchildren in their backyard; his family is blessed to have been a part of his every day life during these last years.
He is survived by his sister, Maria Mapn, of Piraeus, Greece; his former wife and dear friend, Estella Lenis (spouse: Thomas Christison; Harpers Ferry, WV) and their four children: Maria Weaver (spouse: Antoine Weaver; Frederick, MD), Elaine Lenis (Frederick, MD), George Lenis (Hagerstown, MD), and Christina Knepp (spouse: Dustin Knepp; Inwood, WV) and five grandchildren: Akira Lenis, Natalia Weaver, Riana Weaver, Evan Knepp, Stella Knepp.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Babis Lenis, who passed only 10 days earlier.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 27 from 6 to 8 PM at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W King Street, Martinsburg, WV where a viewing and short service will take place, with Pastor Timothy Fisher officiating.
