Obituary for Elwonda Louise "Wanda" Mercer
Elwonda “Wanda” Louise Mercer, 91, of Martinsburg passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center.
Born February 8, 1930 in Paris, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Johnny and Rosie McBride.
She was married to Phil Mercer in 1948 and celebrated 72 years of marriage before his passing in May 2020. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was attending Greensburg United Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She worked her entire life in office administration, family-owned business, returning to school at the age of 50 to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and retired from the Martinsburg VA Medical Center.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Wisecarver (Bob), and Gail Batten (Pree); three grandchildren, Shea O’Leary, Traci Crawford (Mark) and Christopher Wisecarver; great grandchildren, Hailee O’Leary (Chelsea), Kayla Crawford, and Zachary Wisecarver; two brothers, Gerald, and Richard McBride; and a sister, Beverly Guerrerro (Augie).
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town, WV, with Rev. Ed Grove officiating. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.
