Obituary for Dr. Frans George Claasen
Dr. Frans George Claasen., age 92, of Shepherdstown, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020.
Born January 1, 1928 in Jakarta, Indonesia, he was the son of the late Johan and Georgine Maagdenberg Claasen.
He was a lover of nature, history, traveling and classical music.
His greatest contribution to the community was serving 30 years with the Veterans Administration Hospital.
He is survived by two daughters, Martha C. St. Thomas and husband, Mark and Johanna A. Claasen and partner Amy Thompson; and one grandson, Levi St. Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annelies Elizabeth VanDerhouwen Claasen; two brothers, Robert Claasen and Benjamin Claasen.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Van Marsceau officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing and follow directives.
Interment will be private.
