Obituary for Doris Mitchell

Doris B. Mitchell affectionately known as Dottie was born August 31, 1946 in New York City. She quietly passed away November 9, 2020 following a long battle with lung cancer, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Caryrean Bellamy and Wilson Bellamy.

Doris was raised and educated in Newport News Public School System. She graduated from the University of the District of Columbia with a degree in nursing. She worked at various hospitals throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Her career also included private duty nursing. Doris loved her patients and her patients loved her too. Private duty nursing afforded her an opportunity to care for many famous, affluent clients throughout the DMVA. Her reputation preceded her. Many of her patient’s family members referred her to other friends because of her knowledge, experience, and compassion shown to their relatives.

Doris loved to travel. She and her sorority sisters traveled the world over. Doris always brought a piece of jewelry from the various countries she visited. She loved taking cruises and meeting new friends.

Doris leaves to cherish her memories: her son Eric (Tanya) Mitchell, four grand-children, Eric Jr., Yakiya, Sophia, and Alexander all of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Her siblings are Uzella Walker(Walter), Lorene, George(Scherrell), Joyce Bunch all of Hampton, VA and a host of other family and friends.
A very special thanks to Megan, Cassandra, Hospice of the Panhandle and Dr. Mendoza for taking great care of my mother.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a private memorial tribute and a tree dedication in the spring. Eric will be holding an open house November 21st from 3-5pm at 15 Shaftment Way, Martinsburg, WV. Everyone who attends MUST wear a mask and compile to restrictions. Thank you for all acts of kindness during this time of uncertainty.
