Obituary for Dora Belle Allen (Butts)

Dora Belle Allen passed away on April 19, 2022 in Martinsburg, WV after a brief illness.

She was born on March 19, 1928 in White Hall, Virginia. Daughter of parents George Lewis Butts (1883-1973) and Ella Altora (Custer) Butts (1890-1947). Beloved mother of Diane Lynn Weyhrauch (1951-1996) and Daniel Wayne Allen (1954-1954). Grandmother to Dawn Amber (Amy) Allen (1980-1995). Loving wife to Leonard Wayne Allen (1926-2005).

She is survived by daughters Judy Courtney, Linda Kimes (Butch Kimes), Nancy Hott, and son David Allen. Grandchildren Deanna Weyhrauch, Chuck Weyhrauch , John Weyhrauch , Scott Stanley (AJ), Gary Stanley, Brett Courtney, Jay Courtney, Joshua Wheeler, Jaime Courtney, Laura Courtney, Daniel Allen (Amy), and Crystal Allen. She is also survived by 12 beautiful Great Grandchildren.

A longtime resident of the area, her early years were spent farming. After she married Leonard, she focused on raising her family. Later in her life she became a world traveler visiting many countries. She was a unique individual and had a deep love for her family. She valued loyalty, honesty, and authenticity. She loved music, baseball, animals, her cat Camo, and a good cup of coffee. Her wit was razor sharp and she was known to say the most shocking things she could think of. She was kind, generous and compassionate. Even when she spoke in anger, she was often the first to apologize and to try to heal what was broken. She believed in dignity and respect. She loved her entire family, despite their quirks and differences.

Her later years were spent in the care of her daughter, Judy Courtney. There she found the love and care she needed. Her family recently helped her celebrate her 94th birthday.

Her wish was to be cremated and her ashes scattered in the ocean along with Leonard’s ashes. Dora will be desperately missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.

In place of flowers, please consider donating time, money, or supplies to a local animal shelter. Dora would love that.

There will be a viewing at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg on Tuesday April 26, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for family and close friends.

A life celebration dinner will be held on Mother’s Day May 8, 2022 at the home of Nancy Hott for close friends and family.
