Obituary for Donald (Don) Wayne McGuire
Donald (Don) Wayne McGuire, age 77, of Hedgesville, WV, passed away on July 18, 2022. Don was born April 27, 1945 in Creal Springs, Illinois, to the late Curtis Lee and Lucille (Bonds) McGuire. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Taconic AGC-17.
In 1971, Don began his employment with E.I. DuPont in Falling Waters, WV. In 1984 Don transferred to Allen, KY with DuPont. In 1986, he transferred to Madisonville, KY, as Field Operations Manager. DuPont sold the commercial explosives to ETI in 1988. He transferred to Waynesburg, OH, for a few months and then to Whitesburg, GA. In 1994, he transferred to Beckley, WV, and retired in October 1996.
After retiring, Don worked for Berkeley County Schools, serving as a janitor, cook, mechanic, and bus operator until he retired again in December 2013. He drove for RESA until his health would not allow him to continue.
Don is survived by his wife, Debra Ann McGuire; daughter Tammy Lynn Williams of Cherry Run, WV; son Donald Ray McGuire (Pam) of Moody, AL; sisters, Rebecca Lynn Grimes and Rhonda Gail Burnett, both of Marion, IL; brother in law Dann Dunn of Pittsburg, IL; granddaughters, Kristen Williams, Savannah Rae Parks (Jay), Johnna Shae Williams (Garrett), Raeann Alyssa Keefe (Neil); great grandson Maverick John Parks; great granddaughter, Maisie Mae Parks and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lucille; brother Paul Eugene McGuire; two sisters, Edna Ruth McGuire and Alicia Ann Dunn; and son in law, John Russell Williams.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Hedgesville Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle.
