Obituary for Delores Selena Richards

Delores Selena Richards, 75, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many, passed away Tuesday March 2nd at Winchester Medical Center. Delores was born December 15, 1945, in Buckhannon, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Helen T. Martin and Leonard Teclaw. She is survived by her husband, Jimmie L. Richards Sr. of 58 years, daughter Theresa “Richards” Hockman, sons Jimmie Richards Jr and wife Donna Richards, David Richards, son-in-law “Dougie” Hillard, 6 Grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Delores Richards was preceded in death by her parents Leonard Teclaw and Helen T. Martin, her son Paul D. Richards, grandson Jimmie L. Richards III, son-in-law Donnie J. Hockman, and daughter Selena R. Hillard.

Delores grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and met the love of her life Jimmie L Richards Sr. in Davy, West Virginia. Jimmie and Delores felt most at home in Inwood WVa and decided to raise their beautiful family there.

Delores was dedicated to her family and spent as much time as she could with them all. The closeness of her family was truly one of her proudest accomplishments. Anyone who knew her would say she was someone who could light up a room with her candid humor and smile. She treated all as family, and never new a stranger. Delores thoroughly enjoyed reading romance books and inspirational novels in her downtime and was a passionate collector of antiques and uncommon treasures. Most weekends she would go to yard-sales and scout the local Good-Wills and Salvation Army’s for her collection pieces. In previous years she would look forward to antique shopping with her deceased daughter Selena R. Hillard, who also shared her mother’s passion for antiques. Her family is sure Delores and Renee are antiquing and going to yard-sales daily in heaven.

Her family will miss her gentle smile, loving heart, her warm welcome, her home cooked meals- especially her traditional homemade biscuits and sausage gravy on Christmas morning.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers you would donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. A memorial will be held for Delores’ family and close friends. Date and time are to be announced at a later time.

John 14:1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
