Obituary for Cecil Boyce Perkins

Cecil Boyce Perkins, 80, of Martinsburg passed away peacefully on October 28, 2021.

Born on December 1, 1940, in Baltimore City, MD, he was the son of the late Paul and Vera Perkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Paige Elizabeth Perkins.

He attended Howard High School where he was a star athlete, and was inducted into the Howard High School Hall of Fame in 2015. He signed to play baseball with the New York Yankees organization in 1964, and remained with the Yankees as a pitcher until 1968. Cecil was also an All Star college basketball player and an avid tennis player.

He attended the University of Maryland, Salem College, and graduated from Shepherd College with a degree in Biological Science in 1973. He attended West Virginia University for post graduate studies. He taught at Hedgesville High School for several years, and coached baseball and basketball until he opened his own business.

He was a community advocate for student athletes and sports education. He loved his family, sports cars, attending WVU football games, and watching high school sports at Hedgesville and Martinsburg High Schools.

He was known in the community for his strong work ethic, ending his career as owner of CBP Enterprises in 2019, but continuing to work in the business.

He is survived by Jill Burkhart, Taylor Downs (Missy), Betsy Perkins (Willard), Chris Perkins (Sonya Mason), Jeremy Perkins (Shelley), and Clay Perkins (April). He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Christopher Perkins, Cecelia Perkins, Carly Perkins; Jocelyn Perkins, Jayla Perkins, Jaron Perkins; Karsen Perkins, Evan Perkins; a great-grandchild, Lola Perkins; a sister, Patricia Perkins Silberg; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Berkeley County Parks and Recreation or Alzheimer’s Association.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Cindy and Jimmy Thurston, and all of the wonderful staff at Countryside Assisted Living who helped with his care, and to Hospice of the Panhandle for their kind support.
