Obituary for Brian Scott Bender

Brian Scott Bender of Inwood West Virginia departed this life around his wife, his son, his mom and special friends at home on July 22, 2022, after his long battle with PMP Cancer.

Brian was born in Hagerstown Maryland on January 29, 1965 and received his education.

Brian was especially proud of his 20 years of honorable and faithful active-duty service to his country in the United States Navy, retiring in March of 2005; the latter 10 years he could not have completed without the unwavering support of his son Dante.

Brian was a farmer for many years where he grew vegetables and taught individuals young and old how to farm and what to expect in planting and harvesting what was planted.

Brian had his own farming commentary videos called, “Your Humble Farmer.” Brian held special interviews with many other successful farmers where they would share helpful tips in producing quality and delicious vegetables.

Brian was a storyteller. Brian had the voice that you had to stop and listen to. He was very inciteful and articulate whenever he spoke. He shared many funny and serious stories about his childhood and young adult hood and plenty of wonder stories about the times spent raising his son. Brian had an excellent sense of humor which will be greatly missed.

Most notable of Brian’s life decisions was his admission of powerlessness to alcohol and subsequently turning his will and life over to the care of God as he understood Him. September 23rd, 1989 marked his last drink and one day at a time Brian maintained his continuous sobriety until his passing. Of the hundreds of friends of Bill W. that Brian befriended over the years, Jerry and Ovus were two of the most influential friends of his early sobriety upon whom Brian expressed the deepest gratitude for having known. Brian later returned the support he received during his sobriety and became a sponsor where he helped a young woman fighting for sobriety.

Brian when he was well enough, enjoyed being outside playing with his “big toy; as he called it, a John Deer tractor. Brian would spend time mowing the lawn and sifting dirt to beautify his home.

Brian was an outstanding cook. He would try new ways of cooking different dishes but usually always was obsessed with adding his favorite meat Bacon to these dishes.

Brian leaves to cherish his memory, the woman to whom he dedicated his life to unfailing dedication and support, his loving wife Michelle Lynn Bender whom he married on July 10, 2022; his most awesome son Dante Octavius Bender; his parents, Margaret Care and Timothy Bender; his sisters Katrina Souvigany and Ashley Care, his two nephews Augustus and Aaron Secrest.

Of his extended family, Brian always spoke highly of his uncle Timothy Crosby whose nickname of Bri-Bri elicited fond memories and equally impactful to his life was his aunt Maureen (Littlepath) Crosby, a host of other relatives and close friends.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood with Rev. John Nathan Mooney officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the chapel.

Interment will be private.
