Obituary for Betty Lee Crawford (Locke)

Betty Lee Locke Crawford, 94, of Martinsburg passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at her residence.

Born in Berkeley Co. on August 11, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Bert Hyde Locke and Carrie Viola Horton Locke.

She received her education in the Pennsylvania school system. Mrs. Crawford, before retiring, worked at National Fruit for 23 years. She was affiliated with several churches in the area Rosemont Brethren, Full Gospel Pentecostal, Blairton United Methodist, and Calvary United Methodist churches. She loved reading, puzzles, embroidering, crocheting, and family genealogy.

She is survived by three sons, William Lee Crawford, Garland Eugene Crawford, and Russell Lynn Crawford (Christine); nine grandchildren, Tracy Starliper, Rich Crawford, Tony Crawford, Hayley Kressley, Shawn Crawford, Derrick Crawford, Kara MacFarlane, Hillary McCauley and Zachary Crawford; and 14 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Starliper, Emily and Aiden Crawford, Abigail, Caitlyn and Clayton Kressley, Colin, Seth and Ewan Crawford, Joseph, Jaden, and Jared Crawford, Adriene MacFarlane and Aubrey McCauley; and some dear friends, Helene Brill, Larry and Shirley Slebodnick and Dorothy Woodward.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thurman Crawford; infant son, Roger Allen Crawford; three sons, Daniel James, Richard Joseph, and David Ray Crawford; daughter, Patricia Rose Crawford Moore; four sisters, Bertha Schoppert, Dorothy Damey, Ethel Engquist and Nellie Rickel; and dear friend, Alice Cole.

The Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood will be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 14, 2020. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the chapel in Inwood with Rev. Gary Gourley and Rev. Charles Donivan. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Needmore.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Crawford requested donations be made to the Berkeley County Humane Society and/or Hospice of the Panhandle.
