Obituary for Bertha Mae Hemphill
Bertha Mae Hemphill born August 4, 1935 in Dillon, SC to the late Joe Cable and Carrie Mae McLeod and passed away on December 16, 2020. Bertha grew up in Dillon, SC where she was an avid basketball player.
To assist her family and make a better life, Bertha moved to Queens, NY in 1958 and became a Domestic Worker. She worked 20 years as a machinist for Royal Manufacturing Company in College Point, NY. In 1986, she became a Home Health Aide with HANAC Homecare Systems until relocating to Martinsburg.
Bertha accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1975 when she became a member of Christian Temple Baptist Church, where she served as a choir member, deaconess, pastor’s personal nurse, and head of the kitchen committee. After relocating in 2006, Deaconess Hemphill joined Destiny Baptist Church in Martinsburg.
Homegoing service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 2:00PM at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Michael V. Norris officiating.
Family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM prior to the service on Saturday.
Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.
Interment will be held in New York at a later date.
