Obituary for Ann Alger (Martin)

Ann Alger, 85, of Falling Waters, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Born Sept. 28, 1936, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew ‘Flappy’ Martin and Mildred Hines Martin.

Ann loved her family and the State of West Virginia with all her heart and remained a devoted football fan of the Martinsburg Bulldogs where she attended high school. Ann loved to sing and when she was young she sang on the Saturday morning WEPM Radio Show. She sang through her high school years at Martinsburg where former football coach John Colbourn would request she sing his favorite song “Silver Bells”. Ann also had a gift for playing the piano even though she never took lessons.

Ann is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-six years, John Edward Alger; one daughter, Christie Ann Goodman and husband, Bill; and one son, John Ronald Alger; two grandchildren, Casey McGrath and husband, Danny, and Michael Goodman and wife, Caitlyn; along with five beautiful great-grandchildren, Grady, Sully, and Wesley McGrath and Collins and Sutton Goodman. Ann is also survived by four sisters, Peggy Haymore, Mary Crim, Gloria Stuckey and Rosie Schaeffer and one brother, Charles S. Martin.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Lou Berens; and her brother, Phillip Martin.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Walter Bowers officiating.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
