Obituary for Allen William Elliott
Allen William Ogden Elliott passed peacefully from his earthly life into the presence of his beloved Savior and God on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown.
Born April 2, 1932 in Gore, Virginia, he was the eldest son of the Rev. Clark Elliott and Olive Mae Smith Elliott. He was the devoted husband to his beloved wife, the late June Elizabeth Crouse Elliott whom he married on January 19, 1952.
Raised in the Pentecostal Church, Allen faithfully served God throughout his life. He and his wife performed gospel music with the evangelistic group “The Middleway Gospel Singers”. Traveling throughout the tri-state area for more than 18 years, Allen and his entourage brought the good news of the gospel to many. His testimony to God’s love for all people was unwavering and his legacy lies in his gentle, yet effective personal ministry. He was a charter member of Child’s Road Church of God where he served on the board and continued to use his gifts to serve The Lord in the church. He was also active in the Living Waters Fellowship. In recent years, he faithfully attended the Slanesville Presbyterian Church in Hampshire County where he was affectionately known as Alley Cat and Dapper Dad.
Allen was a gifted musician and vocalist who never missed an opportunity to minister to others. He had a sweet spirit and a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor that endeared him to many. These gifts allowed him to connect with people so he could graciously share his faith and establish long-lasting friendships. He never knew a stranger.
Throughout his adult life, Allen worked in the home improvement industry. He was employed by Gregory’s Inc. in Stephens City for many years and prior to his retirement in 2007, he worked as an independent contractor for Dan Ryan Homes.
Allen is survived by his sons Allen “Tugie” Elliott of Martinsburg and Tony Elliott and wife, Mickey Joe of Bunker Hill; five grandchildren, Charity Nicole Seaborne and husband, Chris, Jordan Annette Hasenbuhler and husband Fred, Daniel Mason Elliott, Austin O’Baker Elliott and wife, Kristen, and Adrian Hutzler Elliott; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Levi Seaborne, Marlee Jolynn Elliott, Emilee June Elliott, DJ Hasenbuhler, and Elijah James Hasenbuhler. He is also survived by dear friend and exceptional caregiver, Opal Aldine “Butch” Chaney.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Elliott and his brother Arthur Clark Elliott.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers at Canterbury Center who provided loving care for Allen during his three year stay there. Their unwavering devotion to the residents and patients at the center has been remarkable, especially during the current pandemic. Additionally, heartfelt thanks are due to Hospice of the Panhandle for their compassionate care while he was under their services.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 28 at 11:00 am at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel with Edward Myers officiating.
Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends and family on Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
