Obituary for Frank Michael Panek

Frank Michael Panek, 71, of Inwood, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Berkeley Medical Center.

Born February 1, 1949 in Clifton, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank Michael Panek and Grace (Tresca) Panek.

Dr. Panek earned his PhD in fisheries science from Rutgers University in NJ. and made a career in fisheries-related positions in NY. State and with the Federal Government. He retired as Director of the USGS National Fish Health Lab in Kearneysville, WV.

Frank was a Commander of the volunteer Civil Air Patrol, on the Board of Directors of the Jefferson County Fire Department, and EMS volunteer for Berkeley and Jefferson County, an avid fisherman, conservationist and model train collector.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Claire Elaine (Ryan) Panek; one son, Dennis Michael Panek; one daughter, Katherine Ann Franciosa and husband, Marco; two grandchildren, Rye and Hazel; and two brothers, Thomas and Michael Panek.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Martin Panek.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 3:00 p.,m. at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to service to be followed by a meal at the Independent Fire Co. in Ranson, WV
