Obituary

Obituary for Daniel Lincoln Harman

Daniel Lincoln Harman went to be with the Lord suddenly at his home in Hedgesville, WV on February 5, 2020. He was born in Cumberland, MD on May 21, 1959. He was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and West Virginia University, and was a Certified Industrial Hygienist. As a nearly 20-year employee of the US Department of State, Dan had visited over 50 countries to improve the safety of our oversees employees and their families. He was also a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe in West Virginia.

An avid WVU fan, he would remark, “I bleed Blue and Gold”. He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry. He loved classic rock music, guitars, all things mechanical and technical, and sharing jokes and conversations with family and friends. He was a proud member of the Churchill Society of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Alonzo and Mrs. Frances Harman, and his mother-in-law Doris Shipley. Surviving relatives include: Diane, his wife of 38 years; his children Amanda, Zachary and Matthew (and spouse Zachary Saunders); sisters Anna Clay (and husband Scott) and Mary McClaugherty (and spouse George); sister-in-law Joan Carlson (and husband David); father-in-law Alton Shipley.

A memorial service will be held on February 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church in Martinsburg, WV. Arrangements by Brown Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church (trinitymartinsburg.org/online-donating).

My name is Steve Urman and I actually hired Dan here at the Department of State when I was the Safety Director.. I am so sorry to hear about his passing.. He was a great guy and I really enjoyed working with him.
He will be missed terribly here at State as he was instrumental in developing plans to keep our overseas employees and their family members safe.
