Obituary for Douglas Wayne Lamp

Douglas Wayne Lamp, 58, of Martinsburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Born on November 6, 1961 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Harold Lamp, Sr., and Rose Kisner Lamp.

Dougie is a well-known name in the city of Martinsburg and surrounding areas. He was remembered fondly for his selfless generosity, kind words of encouragement, and steadfast support. At the age of 29, Dougie served his country proudly in the United States Army where he was later honorably discharged. For a majority of Dougie’s adult life he worked and managed Arkay Auto Sales Inc. alongside his family. He took pride in fulfilling his dad’s legacy in being the first to clear the lot at the sight of snow. Arkay closed after 49 years of service. Following the closure, Dougie dappled in chauffeuring, delivery services and most recently Heiston Supply Co.

Dougie was a “basketball lifer” that truly bled orange and black. His devotion to youth athletes in Martinsburg and surrounding areas dates back 30 years. He could always be found cheering on his granddaughter, nieces, and nephews in the bleachers at their games and giving them pointers at holiday dinners. His coaching started with his AAU Team Pump N-Run and continued ranging from boys and girls recreational teams, travel teams, Gus Macker teams, and most recently for the past 4 years volunteering alongside Kyle Triggs with the Martinsburg Lady Bulldogs. Dougie found such joy in supporting his players on and off the court. His words of encouragement and praise have carried many players and coaches through difficult times.

He is survived by his daughter, Raven McKenzie Lamp and her mother, Kim Lamp-Carter; his daughter Alexis Marie Parsley and husband, Cody; two granddaughters, Kennedy Wilkinson and Emma Kate Parsley; two step-daughters, Shelby Wilkinson, and Rachael Wilkinson and their mother, Kellie Wilkinson; his siblings, Vicki Losh, Harold Lamp, Jr. and Sue, Richard Losh and wife, Cheryl, Shannon Mong and husband, Charles.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Lamp.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 3:30 PM at Martinsburg High School Gymnasium with Pastor Kevin Green and Pastor Emmett Keck officiating followed by an open gym. The family requests that everyone attending to wear orange and black in memory of Dougie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Doug Lamp Memorial Fund to benefit Martinsburg High School. Donations are to be made at United Bank at the Foxcroft Avenue branch.

Arrangements made by Brown Funeral Home.
