Obituary

Obituary for Brian Raughn Russell

Brian Raughn Russell, 45 of Ranson passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 in the Fairfax Inova Hospital.

Born October 18, 1974 in Winchester, Virginia, Brian was the son of Raughn and Diane Russell of Ranson. In addition to his parents he is survived by his beloved children - daughter, Taylor Russell and son, Coby Russell of Charles Town; sister Neena Russell, niece Olivia Porter, both of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; grandparents Alvin and Ozalene Russell of Kearneysville; special fur companion Romo, who was always by his side.

Brian was preceded in death by grandparents, Woody and Judy Walters.

Brian graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1992, and attended Shepherd College. He played many sports growing up and was an excellent tennis player for the Jefferson High School tennis team. They won the State Championship in 1992.

Brian always had a heart of gold, loved children and animals and was “Pops” to many of his children's friends. His laughter, wit and charm will be missed.

Brian had worked at Navy Federal Credit Union, Brook Lane Health Services, Martin’s and was currently employed at the Jefferson Center. He was a paper distributor for many years. Brian was an avid sports fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys and watching horseracing.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Melissa C. Rudolph officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family requests donations be made to: Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County, 23 Poor Farm Road, Kearneysville, WV 25430.

Linda Henson

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Brian. I knew him through the Jefferson Center where he worked. He worked with my daughter Trisha who has downs syndrome and was a great mentor to her. He greeted us every morning with a smile. He was a bright light in our day and we respected and loved him. He was a good man who made a big positive impact in my daughters life and he will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy.

Just want to share my condolences with the Russell family. I knew Brian through the tennis program. Always with a great personality and sense of humor. He remains as part of a legacy of the Jefferson High Tennis Program and was a member of the only team to have won the WV State championship in tennis. He was a critical member of that team and an honor that will remain with him and his teammate. Rest in Peace Brian. You will definitely be missed and won't be forgotten.
